Trauma-Informed Workforce Development for Maternity Services

With over 30 years in midwifery and 22 years as a university lecturer — including appointments within two Russell Group institutions — my work also focuses on addressing one of the most overlooked pressures in maternity services: the impact of trauma exposure on the workforce. I provide specialist professional development for NHS Trusts and universities. My approach bridges clinical practice, research evidence and systems thinking. This work acknowledges the need to improve women’s experiences of care, and to strengthen the psychological resilience and sustainability of the maternity workforce itself. Compassionate care cannot exist without supported professionals. I offer lectures, workshops and professional training on birth trauma, secondary birth trauma, trauma informed care and reflective practice for midwives, student midwives and maternity professionals.
