Support for Your Labour and Childbirth Experience
Whether you’re feeling unsettled about your experience in labour or processing a difficult birth, you’re not alone. My work is centred on helping women, partners and health professionals process difficult experiences and regain a sense of safety and confidence.
A calm space for reflection and support
I offer reflective birth support for women, partners, and families who want time and space to talk through a pregnancy, birth or childbirth related experience or prepare for future care. I also offer a reflections service for health professionals and student midwives.
Sessions are calm, supportive, and evidence-informed, focusing on listening, understanding, and shared decision-making. My approach is grounded in reflective practice and human factors, helping people feel heard and supported.
This is an independent service designed to complement, not replace, NHS maternity care.
My Approach
My approach is informed through evidence and tailored to each person’s needs. I combine the knowledge gained from decades of clinical experience, education, and research to help women, partners and health professionals process difficult experiences, and rebuild confidence. Every session is delivered with compassion, respect, and a focus on outcomes that make a meaningful difference to your journey.
This practice is built on professional expertise, evidence-informed care, and trusted referrals.

Birth Story Circles
This is a safe, supportive space for 6 – 8 people to share birth stories that have stayed with them over the weeks, months or even years —those experiences that may have left someone feeling unsettled, emotional, or carrying more than they expected. Please get in touch for more details.
With specialised training in birth debriefing and birth afterthoughts services and 30 years’ experience as a midwife, educator, and researcher, I have worked hands-on in clinical care, led midwifery education programmes, and conducted research in maternal mental health, contributing to publications, grants, and innovative teaching. My work is guided by a commitment to improving experiences and supporting people through the challenges and joys of pregnancy and birth. My qualifications include a PhD in Health Studies, an MSc Health Professional Studies, a BSc (Hons) Midwifery Practice and Women’s Health, and NIOQ Certification (Level 4) in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy.

What the Research Says
“Women appear to value talking and being listened to by a midwife following birth. They seem to have a strong need to have their story heard. This discussion also allows the women to have questions answered and information given where necessary. The whole process places a seal on a woman’s birth experience which is validated.”
